Yay I can blog again! Haven't had a chance to tell you bout my week.
It was...busy! Signed a contract for 3 days a week at the private and will most likely get offered more. Was booked to work all 5 days this week, but did a double shift (yes 16hrs) on Tuesday and therefore had to take Wednesday off. It was nice working in maternity, did a lot of surgical stuff cause it is a combined maternity/surgical ward. But managed to get some breast feeding help in there.
I worked in CCU yesterday, it was a very scary shift little to say, though fortunately the nurses I was on with were really helpful. CCU is the coronary care unit, they are where most of the major heart problem patients are put from around the state, it is a step down from ICU but still has ventilated patients and such. I was freaked when I got to work and I was down that end of the ward. Anyways, I was given 3 patients(or clients depending on whether you wanna be pc or not). All cardiac monitored and on hourly obs. So we got to it, washing them and such, well mid morning the person I was working with decided she needed to go cause something was up with her daughter. So then i was alone, one patient went home after lunch, but just before lunch one of my women went into AF (atrial fibrillation). So she needed really really regular monitoring, her monitor kept going off cause her heart rate was between 130-170 beats a minute... well her atria were her ventricles were just keeping up (the 4 chambers of the heart.. 2 atria 2 ventricles!). It was very scary! Then she went for her angiogram, which is where they thread a catheter up through the main artery in your groin into your heart to check the blood vessels for blockages.
It was all a bit freaky for me, but she thanked me before I went home for the good care that I took of her, which made me feel as if I did an ok job, just a little.
Apart from that, this week has just mainly been very busy and very tiring, but not bad all in all. I couldn't get onto blog earlier so you just get a sorta generic thing today, can't merember the feelings that went with everything that happened, so no use writin about em.
