Feet are Killing me, danced for an hour this morning then ran them off at work tonight.
You only have to not work with surgical patients for a week or two and you forget how busy things can be. I got to work and was told I had the surgical patients, but that they were actually getting another staff member to work with me which was good news. It turned out they were getting me an enrolled nurse from high dependency medical who had never done surgical work. Enrolled nurses at my work can't do anything with IV's so... no help there as 8 out of the 9 patients we had between us had intravenous fluids going. 9 out of 9 patients had been operated on, 4 of them only coming back after my shift started and the rest of them still being on half hourly obs, with only 2 automatic blood pressure machines between them all. Its kinda weird at the private we are only sposed to use the automatic bp monitors. So I spent all my afternoon, going through all the patients doing the half hourly obs and fixing their IV's, it felt like every time I finished with my obs for the half hour it was time to do them again! In the midst of this I had to go pick up patients from recovery room, wash all my patients and get them comfortable for the night, get paint relief, deal with the 2-3 patients who vomited throughout the shift (most often over themselves) and transfer people from room to room. FUuuuuuuuun! err.. not.
Tired now, think I shall go to bed.
laters!
