Poooooop! I hate poop, one of the kids I was looking after pooped in her pants before we even got to where I was babysitting them today. She didn't tell me, even when I asked her earlier in the morning whether she needed to go to the toilet, I could smell wafts of it and couldn't pinpoint the kid it was coming from (out of the 7 of them). She finally admitted it and we had to take both her pants and underwear off, problem was, her mom hadn't put extra undies or pants in, so i had to use one of her sisters nappies. Then my hands smelt like poop for a few hours.
I am so durn tired, I need to sleep but don't wanna. Work was... hmm... work! My feet feel like they are falling off. I got lotsa good lactation advice and info from one of the fabulous midwives who I was working with. Everyone... I mean pretty much EVERYONE on the ward had breastfeeding problems tonight. It is so overwhelming just having a baby, let alone having to work out breast feeding and hormones and all that sorta stuff. Lactating is normal, baby's sucking is inherant, breastfeeding is LEARNT! People just think... oh yeah, I'll breastfeed, they do nothing towards learning how to do it, just expect it to happen... it doesn't (well to qualify, I have seen probably 2 or 3 mothers and babies who got it together first feed and never had a problem in the 2 years I have been a midwife)! Any pregnant women who happen to read this, GO TO BREASTFEEDING CLASSES while you are pregnant! It is something that takes a while to learn, and when your baby comes and wants to eat yesterday is not the time you wanna be learning this!
Anyways, gonna go snooze now.
Gnite!
