I am zonked...nightshift has been hectic. The first night I had at least 2 patients come back to the ward from theatre at 11pm, so they had obs half hourly for the next 4hrs, plus we had 6 Patient Controlled Analgesia Systems (PCAS) on the ward which requires us to do hourly obs on those patients. Narcotics in the PCAS can lower respiration rates significantly, which is one of the reasons we observe them hourly, and of course one of the women I was looking after's resp rate decreased significantly, so I had to keep an extra eye on her. And the other two women that had PCAS that I were looking after were both new mums, so it wasn't just them I had to look after, it was the baby's too! Second night was just as busy with 2 lady's in labour and only two of us on the ward. One lady was delivering at morning hand over, my lady was fully dilated and I didn't do half the obs I needed to.
Last night it was really busy again, 4 PCAS, lady with a badly bleeding nose, people with fevers, baby's not feeding and in the middle of it a woman came in and had a baby in an hour! I don't think I sat down for more than 5minutes the whole shift.
My right butt cheek is killing me today for some reason now I have woke up with the muscle being really sore when I use it... bleh!
Anyways, finished ranting and my brain is not functioning well enough to think of anything else remotely interesting to write.
