Okay so ya know how last week i said I had the most annoying patient, well... the woman this week has topped the guy from last week. At least the guy from last week didn't buzz continuously.
So I have this woman for last 3 days, she started out semi okay, but got worse and worse.
This morning as I left the staff room her buzzer was on... I am not comfortable, I need to move. So I help her to get out of bed, fix up her iv and leave her. I have 4 other people, 3 of whom have CVC's and need line changes and drugs. 2 peoples wounds pop open, one needs packing the other expressing. She buzzes as I start going through my patient meds for the day, I answer, she says, I need to get up and get going and into the shower and all. I tell her yes, but I need to get the medications sorted out before anyone does that (cause i know she will need help), turn her buzzer off and go back to the medications, I had left the room for 2 minutes, buzzer back on, can I have something for my bowels, I really need to get up and moving, oh and my IV is leaking, I turn the IV off and go write it down to be redone. I understand she needs to get up, I don't have time at the moment, iv's going off everywhere, I tell her nicely not yet, turn her bell off and leave. 5 minutes later, bell is on again, I put off going back for a bit cause man... i have told her twice I don't have time yet. I go back the third time, are you sure that the physio is coming to get me up cause my bowels wont work if I don't get up. Ok woman you are getting bitchy now, I have told you that I cannot get you up yet, 2 of my other patients are in the shower, one with a wound that has popped opened and needs packing. I leave and then again, 5 minutes, my IV has been turned off, its not dripping, are you doing something about that? I already have, I am very aware it is off cause I turned the fucker off... I have put it down and the guy is on the ward who puts the new ones in, now shut the hell up, don't touch your bloody buzzer and let me do some fucking work. Finally get partially through the 3 patients who were in the shower, get back and someone has gotten her up for me... thank freaking goodness.
The whole day continued in the same vein... fer cripes sakes woman... GET a CLUE! There is other patients in the hospital than you and yes, some of them are actually higher priorities on my list. Buzzing me to come put your toothbrush and toothpaste back into the bathroom for you when I am in the middle of a dressing or changing an iv line is soooo not gonna do good things for you. I am gonna stab you with a blunt needle the next time I have to give you one.
ARGH.
okay /rant off.
